We have previously reported that Mercedes-Benz will apply a facelift procedure to the E-Class business range for the 2013 model year. In addition to the standard limousine and T-Modell variants that are to get refreshed, the coupe and cabriolet versions will also get the same treatment. As in the case of the first mentioned, the biggest change for the C 207 and A 207 models will be the entirely redesigned front fascia. The new cars are to be introduced next year at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Till then, there's a long way to come and the first test vehicles for the revamped E-Class Coupe have already hit streets late last month.

The new face of the coupe and cabrio offerings under the E-Class portfolio are a return to the old roots and pay tribute to the last large-sized 2-door Mercedes-Benz model that wore single-piece headlamps - the iconic C 124 generation. The style will basically be the same as for the sedan and wagon, but we do expect certain details will be added to create a more authentic sports look for the two dynamic cars. A new grille with one louvre will be available for the bespoke AMG Sports Package (if not for the standard model also), as well as new and more exciting wheel designs and a revised front apron. The Ponton crease will be discontinued and the rear end will display updated tail lights with LED technology. For the sake of a low overall weight and a classic feel, the cabriolet will continue to feature a cloth top and the complete set of dedicated solutions for a pleasurable open-air ride across the entire year, like the AIRCAP and the AIRSCARF.

Even though we all know these models are more C-Class than E-Class when it comes to the underlying technical platform, Mercedes-Benz engineers will work to refine both the coupe and the open-top in order to bring them closer to the basic principles of the E-Class family. While the powertrain won't suffer major changes, the interior will be a rather radical departure from the present situation. Often criticized for the resemblance to the W 204 in terms of dashboard styling and assembly quality, the refreshed C/A 207 will receive a substantially upgraded interior with improved functionality, a new design and a more business-like atmosphere. New are the steering wheel and the center console, as well as the entire array of assistance, comfort and telematics systems Mercedes-Benz has premiered during the recent period. COMAND Online with internet access and integrated interface for social profiles, Brake Assist Plus, ATTENTION ASSIST, Speed Limit Assist and DISTRONIC PLUS with Collision Prevention Assist are just a few of the breakthroughs to be offered for the new-generation E-Class Coupe/Cabriolet.

In the engine department, you will not find many changes, but some efficiency tweaks will be applied for the whole lineup of diesel and petrol powerplants. We expect to see higher performance numbers for the BlueDIRECT units - the 3.5-litre V6 E 350 BlueEFFICIENCY and the 4.7-litre V8 BITURBO E 500 BlueEFFICIENCY choices: at least 340 hp and 435 hp, respectively. If you were wondering whether Mercedes-Benz would finally introduce an AMG variant for the 2013MY, the answer is negative. Maybe, the future generation of the E-Class Coupe/Cabriolet will get a steroid treatment in the Affalterbach laboratories.
