The Mercedes-Benz luxury flagship celebrates its global premiere at the end of September in Paris, on the stage of the famous Mondial de l'Automobile. According to latest hints, the first official pictures and data of the W 222 shall be released in the next 2-3 weeks, practically 7 years after the W 221 generation was introduced back in 2005. The latest spy shots were captured on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany and showcase a lightly camouflaged FEP prototype doing some development laps alongside an S-Class limousine from the current series.

Even though this is near-series test vehicle, compared to other Mercedes-Benz FEP models, the new S-Class does not reveal very much styling details. The amount of black tape has been dramatically reduced, but it still covers the headlamps, the front apron, the sides and the most the back end - which are exactly the areas you would expect to find less hidden in these circumstances. Anyway, we basically know the W 222 series will adopt a classic design with substantial progressive influences.

The strong points will be the more upright front fascia, dominated by the new LED intelligent headlights and the wider traditional Mercedes-Benz chromed grille. Also, the forthcoming S-Class will gain more presence and elegance thanks to the extra length and the cohesive premium style. Do not forget: the new S-Class and the high-end versions based on it that will follow the next period will have to replace Maybach as well, so the importance of this new Mercedes-Benz is infinitely crucial for the strategic growth of the Stuttgart-based company, which must not afford to take any risky or faulty steps.
