Upscale cycling with Mercedes: the Trekking Bike 29 is the latest high-quality addition to the Mercedes-Benz Bikes 2013 line-up. Like the Fitness Bike 29 unveiled last year, it has large wheels to provide greater traction, smoother running and better ride stability. The 2013 range also includes a mountain bike with full suspension and the exceptionally versatile Kids' Bike, which easily converts into a balance bike. High-quality cycle wear and an extensive range of accessories are also available.

All Mercedes-Benz bikes and accessories boast contemporary, innovative technology and the high level of quality that is synonymous with the Mercedes-Benz brand. The bikes are developed and produced in collaboration with the Hesse-based premium bike manufacturer ADP Rotwild. For the accessories too, Mercedes has joined forces with renowned manufacturers including uvex, deuter and SIGMA.

The new Trekking Bike 29 features an exclusive Mercedes-Benz frame with 29-inch wheels, a high-quality 27-speed DEORE gear shifter and hydraulic disc brakes by Shimano. The Suntour NCX-D LO suspension fork has a travel of 80 mm and is lockable. The Trekking Bike 29 is supplied fully equipped with lights, mudguards and a Topeak rear carrier. It weighs around 15 kg.

The Trekking Bike 29 is priced at €1399 [1] and is available in frame heights of 49/52/55 cm and in an exclusive matt black colour. A three-dimensional chromed Mercedes-Benz star is mounted on the front of the bike frame.

Details of further specifications:

- 29-inch Schwalbe Citizen tyres

- Handlebars including angle-adjustable stem

- Topeak Ergon GP 1 handlebar grips

- Phorm saddle with three comfort zones for pressure-free sitting

- FUXON LED front light and rear light, Shimano hub dynamo, standlight function

The Fitness Bike 29 launched last year has been technically adapted in line with the new Trekking bike and now features a high-quality 27-speed Shimano DEORE gear shifter. It is also equipped with a lockable Suntour NRX-D LO suspension fork with 80 mm travel, hydraulic Shimano disc brakes, Ergon handlebar grips, an angle-adjustable stem and a high-quality Phorm saddle for outstanding comfort even on longer rides. The white/silver colour combination emphasises this bike model's sporty character. The Mercedes-Benz Fitness Bike 29 is available in three frame sizes (49/52/55 cm), weighs around 14 kg and is priced at €1199. All Mercedes-Benz Fitness Bikes from model year 2007 onwards can be retrofitted with the aluminium rear carrier (with a payload of around 7 kg). It can be mounted easily without tools and is priced at €59.90.

Designed specifically for the rear carrier on the Trekking Bike and Fitness Bike, the pannier is made of black nylon with a high-quality DuPont™ Teflon® coating. One of the pannier's stand-out features is the fact that it can simply be pushed onto the rear carrier and locked firmly in place by means of a click mechanism. The main compartment and two side compartments provide a total capacity of seven litres. Additional features such as a shoulder strap, carry handle, 3M reflector stripe and bungee cords make the pannier a very handy accessory. The pannier measures approx. 32x20x20 cm (LxWxH), weighs around 0.8 kg and is priced at €59.90.

Starter model for children: the versatile Kids' Bike

With its robust aluminium frame, the versatile Kids' Bike provides a particularly snazzy means of introducing youngsters to the joys of bike riding. Its 2-in-1 concept enables swift and simple conversion from a 16-inch children's bike into a balance bike. As a balance bike, it makes toddlers' first attempts at riding a bicycle a particularly easy and fun experience, trains their sense of balance and makes the eventual switch to riding with pedals substantially less daunting. For 2013, the Kids' Bike comes in a choice of three colours: a new blue metallic shade to tie in with the colour palette for the new A-Class or, alternatively, white or pink metallic. It is suitable for children of between three and around six years of age (seat height adjustable from around 50 to 60 cm) and is priced at €299.90. There is a matching children's bike helmet by uvex in blue metallic/white with the Monomatic fastening system and red LED light available priced at €53.90. Accessories include easily mountable stabilisers (€14.90).

Alternatively, children aged around two or above can get their first taste of riding on two wheels on the wooden balance bike, which sports a Mercedes-Benz motorsport look in silver, petronas green and black. The 12-inch wheels have plastic rims and the seat height is adjustable from 32 to 36 cm. This bike is priced at €129.90.

Proven star: All Mountain mountain bike

Another star of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz Bikes line-up is the All Mountain mountain bike, which really comes into its own in off-road terrain. A Fox Racing F 32 RL suspension fork and a DT M 210 Swiss fork leg with front and rear spring travel of 120 mm and 125 mm respectively make for efficient and safe handling. This model features a 30-speed SRAM X.7/X.9 gear shifter and an Avid Elixir R hydraulic disc brake system with 185 mm discs. The 26-inch DT Swiss X1900 wheels round off the functional package. The Mercedes-Benz All Mountain mountain bike weighs 12.8 kg, comes in a choice of three frame heights (47/50/53 cm) and is finished in a matt black/anthracite/white colour combination. It is priced at €3299.

Accessories include Topeak mudguards made of injection-moulded nylon. The rear mudguard attaches to the seat post by means of quick-release fastener, while there is an adapter for fastening the front mudguard to the suspension fork. The mudguard set is priced at €39.90.

Catering to cyclists' needs: high-quality cycle wear and accessories

New to the 2013 range is the men's' cycling jersey in a black/white/petrol colour combination. It is made 100 percent of breathable fast-drying polyester, has three rear pockets, including one with a zip fastener, and it features sports reflector piping. A Mercedes-Benz star and lettering provide brand identity. The jersey is available in sizes from S to XXL and is priced at €64.90.

The range of high-quality cycle wear and practical accessories also includes:

- Bike helmet by uvex in white/black, with 16 large ventilation slots, anti-insect mesh inserts and LED safety light, tested to safety standard EN 1078 (one size fits all, €99.90)

- SIGMA light set incl. batteries and charger. The front light with integrated charging function delivers around 20 hours of light, the rear light around 60 hours (€69.90)

- Breathable cycle shorts in black/white incl. separate cycle briefs in Ibisco with seat pad (M-XXL, €89.90)

- Hydration rucksack developed in collaboration with deuter (€83.90) with three-litre bladder and capacity of eight litres as well as Airstripes ventilation at back (colours: black/white/petrol, €83.90)

- Flexible folding lock produced by specialist ABUS for Mercedes-Benz (length approx. 90 cm, weight approx. 1 kg, colour black, €83.90)

- Robust Topeak prop stand made of aluminium and stainless steel for simple attachment to quick-release mechanism. The stand (€99.90) facilitates maintenance of all bikes, can be folded to save space and has a load capacity of up to 90 kg.

Mercedes-Benz Bikes 2013 with accessories and cycle wear are available from authorised Mercedes-Benz partners.

Mercedes-Benz Collection: the highest quality standards

"The best or nothing" promise clearly carries through to the products in the Mercedes-Benz Collection. All items have been specifically designed, developed and produced for Mercedes-Benz. Ideas scribbled on a notepad are worked up into detailed sketches and later translated into precise technical drawings. These provide the basis for making prototypes. The next step involves evaluating the proportions, functionality and material selection in order to satisfy the demanding requirements of Mercedes-Benz.

True to its commitment to superb quality, Mercedes-Benz also has the products in the Mercedes-Benz Collection and their raw materials and components tested by the specialists at the independent SGS Institut Fresenius product testing centre. Over the course of numerous laboratory and safety tests, the products have to meet tough test criteria that far exceed the requirements laid down by law. It is only once testing has been completed successfully that the product can be put into production.

Mercedes-Benz light-alloy wheels 2013: Attractive wheels for the summer

Don't Copy From This Blog...

Protected by Copyscape Plagiarism Detection
When winter slowly draws to a close and temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius are to be expected on a lasting basis, it is time to switch to summer tyres. This is also just the time to upgrade your car with a set of attractive light-alloy wheels. Mercedes-Benz Accessories is now presenting various new wheels, several in sporty 19-inch size and featuring a high-sheen finish, for numerous current model series.

High-sheen light-alloy wheels derive their additional appeal from the interesting contrast between the apparently bare metal surface and the painted areas. They lend the vehicle a yet more exclusive appearance and are considered by the designers at Mercedes-Benz to be more than just a passing fad.

Apart from improving a vehicle's appearance, Mercedes-Benz light-alloy wheels also offer the utmost in safety. All wheels are designed precisely for the vehicle concerned in terms of stress, strain and dimensions. The light-alloy wheels are required to undergo a comprehensive development and testing programme before they are considered fit for purpose. In the course of this programme, each wheel design has to pass a diverse range of rigorous tests in accordance with strict Mercedes-Benz guidelines, all of which go beyond the statutory requirements. Special test methods are applied here to simulate the challenges encountered in real-life road traffic, for example, and the materials are examined using state-of-the-art x-ray systems. High-sheen wheels additionally undergo tests involving subjection to highly corrosive salt spray or a 28-day alternating climate programme, for example. Only after passing all these tests do the wheels earn their place in the Mercedes-Benz genuine light-alloy wheels range.

The online Accessories Configurator at www.mercedes-benz.de can be used to find the appropriate wheels and the right tyre sizes for virtually every Mercedes-Benz. All Mercedes-Benz sales partners are also pleased to assist you in finding the tyre that is best suited to each specific Mercedes-Benz model. The ideal combinations have been ascertained in strict tests together with leading tyre manufacturers. The better wheels and tyres are matched, the better the rolling and wear characteristics will be.

The light-alloy wheels and matching tyres are available from Mercedes-Benz partners.

Tips on handling and looking after wheels

The manner in which wheels are handled has a major influence on their value retention and the safety of the vehicle. Useful tips:

- Clean the winter wheels thoroughly after changing in the spring, regardless of whether steel or light-alloy wheels are fitted.

- Do not use aggressive cleaners. Products recommended by Mercedes-Benz are gentle agents which will clean the wheels effectively.

- Do not clean with sharp or rough sponges.

- Observe the specified wheel tightening torques. Wheel bolts which are too tight or too loose will damage the wheel in the long term.

- Do not oil or grease wheel bolts, as at the specified tightening torque this will result in excessive prestressing, which may cause damage to both wheels and bolts.

- Use genuine Mercedes-Benz wheel bolts only.

- Check the wheels after they have taken heavy knocks, e.g. when driving through deep potholes. If deformation is visible, be sure to have the damage checked at a dealership.

- Fit only the size of tyre approved for the wheel.

- When carrying high payloads and/or towing a trailer, adjust the tyre pressure accordingly and be sure to observe the permissible wheel loads.

Daimler Art Collection shows works in Brescia

Don't Copy From This Blog...

Protected by Copyscape Plagiarism Detection
The Daimler Art Collection will provide outstanding works for an exhibition next year at the Museo di Santa Giulia museum in Brescia, Italy. Daimler AG and the city of Brescia have signed a letter of intent to this effect. The exhibition will comprise twentieth century and contemporary international works of art.

This high-level show has been made possible thanks to the cooperation between the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the Museo Mille Miglia in Brescia, which works hand-in-hand with the Museo di Santa Giulia. The Museo di Santa Giulia itself is located in a Lombard monastery which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This distinction links it with Daimler AG, because the patent document of the Benz motor car, which is kept in the Daimler’s archives, is likewise part of the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Anders Sundt Jensen (Head of Mercedes-Benz Brand Communication), Michael Bock (Head of Mercedes-Benz Classic) and Dr Renate Wiehager (Head of the Daimler Art Collection) signed the declaration of intent together with the Mayor of Brescia, Adriano Paroli, and the Director General of Brescia, Alessandro Triboldi.

When organising the show and planning the surrounding programme, Daimler and the city of Brescia were able to profit from the existing cooperation between the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the Mille Miglia Museum. This fruitful partnership has also given birth to the current special exhibition, “Mille Miglia – Passion and Rivalry”, which is on show at the Mercedes-Benz Museum until 6 January 2013. Mercedes-Benz Italy will also be involved in the project.

The Daimler Art Collection

- This collection founded in 1977 comprises more than 2,000 works by around 700 German and international artists
- Focus on abstract-constructive, conceptual and minimalist works, as well as commissioned works of vehicles, photography and video art
- Part of corporate policy and Daimler’s cultural involvement

The Daimler Art Collection is dedicated to twentieth century art and contemporary international art. It was founded in 1977 and now comprises over 2,000 works by around 700 artists of both German and international renown. It focuses on abstract-constructive, conceptual and minimalist works.

The collection, with its quality and presence at different Daimler locations, demonstrates how art has become an integral part of the social identity and cultural profile of the company.
In 1999, the collection moved for the first time into its own exhibition space. Known as the Daimler Contemporary, these 600 square metres are housed in the elaborately renovated Haus Huth on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. Collections with different focal points are shown here every three months together with new acquisitions. There are also smaller displays of works by individual artists as well as special exhibitions.

The Museo di Santa Giulia municipal museum

- A modern, 14,000 square-metre exhibition area
- Brescia’s history, art and spirituality from early times up to today
- Close relationship between buildings and exhibits

Brescia’s Santa Giulia municipal museum is located in a historic Langobardic complex of monastery buildings and is unique in Italy and Europe in its design and location. With its exhibition areas covering around 14,000 square metres it offers a journey through Brescia’s history, art and spirituality from ancient times to the present day.

The Benedictine convent of San Salvatore-Santa Giulia was founded in 753 by the last Langobardic king, Desiderius and his wife Ansa. It occupied a role of great religious, political and economic importance, which continued after the Langobards defeat by Charlemagne. According to tradition, the dramatic story of Ermengarda, daughter of Desiderius and spurned bride of the Frankish emperor, was played out in Santa Giulia; it was recounted by Alessandro Manzoni in his work “Adelchi”.

The monastery complex documents a period of several centuries, exhibiting many remarkable finds from various historical epochs which have made their mark on the city. In Roman times there was an extensive city district on the area of the later monastery, with significant town houses, the so-called Domus. The municipal museum also includes the Langobardic Basilica San Salvatore with its crypt, the Romanesque Oratorium (chapel) of Santa Maria del Solario, the Nuns’ Choir, the sixteenth century Renaissance church of Santa Giulia, and the cloisters.

The museum’s special distinguishing feature is the close relationship between the historic buildings and the exhibits, which number around 11,000 and include Celtic finds such as helmets and ornamental jewellery, Roman portraits and bronze figures, Langobardic items, burial objects, frescos, art collections and hand-made items from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. A central piece is the winged victory goddess, a bronze statue which was found in the Capitolium and is a symbol of the city of Brescia.

Did you know?

Two outstanding exhibitions will be taking place this autumn:

“Mille Miglia – Leidenschaft und Rivalität” (“Mille Miglia – Passion and Rivalry”) at the Mercedes-Benz Museum, Stuttgart, from 10 October 2012 to 6 January 2013.

“Silver Arrows 1934-1939” at the Louwman Museum, The Hague, the Netherlands, from 11 October 2012 to 6 January 2013.

Trendy design in the unconventional style of the brand coupled with clever ideas and a high level of functionality – these are the features that characterise the new smart electric drive collection that is now available from smart dealers.

The stylish and weatherproof smart ebike functional jacket is the perfect item of clothing for zipping through town on the new smart ebike. The basic colour of the women's jacket is "crystal white", with "energy green" adding fresh accents on the seams, zipper and cords. The men's version combines "matt dark grey" with accents in "flame orange". The jacket made of 100 percent polyurethane (PU) is breathable, has a wind-stopper function and withstands a water column of at least 5000 millimetres. The hood can be stowed in the collar. The smart ebike functional jacket is available in the sizes XS, S, M, L, XL (women) and S, M, L, XL, XXL (men).

With the smart ebike helmet, cyclists play it safe. And they also cut a fine figure. It is available in two colour variants with a sporty design: crystal white/energy green and matt dark grey/flame orange. The helmet produced by cooperation partner Uvex is available in the sizes XS/S (head circumference: 52-57 cm) and M/L (57-62 cm).

With its innovative and attractive design the smart ebike folding lock is typically smart. It features the smart ebike logo and a green ebike pictogram. Thanks to the innovative link construction the lock folds to a compact size. It is quick to use, has a low weight and offers a high level of protection. A practical bag protects the 90 cm lock from dirt.

With the smart ebike shoulder bag that has a detachable padded laptop compartment new media is always at hand. Made of water-repellent material, the bag is robust and hard-wearing. The basic colour white is combined with "energy green" prints. Dimensions: approx. 40 x 34 x 15 cm.

From the autumn an aluminium luggage rack will extend transport options on the ebike. Small items can be stowed in its integrated net pockets. In addition, waterproof panniers are available that have space for A4 documents and notebooks up to 15" in size. The panniers available in crystal white/energy green and matt dark grey/flame orange also boast numerous inside compartments and a padded, anti-slip shoulder strap. The panniers are made by our cooperation partner Ortlieb.

Further accessories for the ebike will be available from the autumn. These will include a smartphone holder, high and comfortable handlebars, two different angled seatposts and two saddles in crystal white/energy green and matt dark grey/flame orange.

But not only are there lots of trendy accessories for the smart ebike - fans of the smart fortwo electric drive can also choose their favourites from a large assortment. For example, a pin enables them to show that they support cutting-edge electric mobility.

The smart electric drive T-shirt also demonstrates clear commitment to the brand and the model. Here, the new smart fortwo electric drive can be seen as a green outline on the white T-shirt - even at night because the print on the front and rear is reflective. The breathable T-shirt made of 100% polyester is available in the sizes S, M, L, XL and XXL.

The new smart electric drive solar charger is an innovative and environmentally-friendly way of charging smartphones. Mobile end devices are docked there via a USB connection. Further practical accessories include a USB stick (4 GB) made of hard rubber in the shape of a smart fortwo electric drive and a key ring with the new electric smart as a shopping trolley chip.

And for the youngest fans of zero-emission mobility there is the kids' electric car in an electric drive design in the colours crystal white/energy green. The car is approximately one metre long. The body is made of plastic and the chassis is made of metal. Battery and charger are included in the scope of supply.
