Double premiere for Mercedes-Benz at the Detroit Auto Show: Launch of major model initiative

Having already reached sales of more than 13 million vehicles in its segment, the E‑Class will be celebrating its debut in its latest guise on 14 January at the International Auto Show in Detroit. Saloon, Estate, Cabriolet and Coupé models have all been completely revised and boast a range of exceptionally efficient engines, new assistance systems and a new design idiom. Of interest not only to the US market will be the E 63 AMG models, now available for the first time in a 4MATIC version as well. The new E-Class is the forerunner in the most comprehensive model initiative to date in the executive and luxury segment: joining the E-Class, with a world premiere towards the middle of the year, will be the new S-Class. The initiative is being flanked by the launch of the new four-door coupé, the CLA, which aims to broaden the appeal of the brand to attract younger customers. This car, too, will be celebrating its debut in Detroit and will shortly also be joining the product line-up in the US.

The new E-Class family sees numerous technical innovations for the first time, while it also demonstrates clear advances in terms of efficiency, ecology and dynamic driving. Taking the lead here, amongst other features, are a series of new and powerful BlueDIRECT four-cylinder petrol engines with direct injection technology, a new high-performance, high-torque and yet fuel-efficient six-cylinder unit, as well as even more efficient diesel engines.

All models in the E-Class family are equipped with either new or optimised assistance systems that will be found in the forthcoming S‑Class. They blend comfort and safety in a way that Mercedes-Benz calls "Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive" and include systems that, for the first time, make it possible to prevent accidents with crossing vehicles or pedestrians; Active Lane Keeping Assist, which can also help prevent accidents with oncoming traffic; and anti-dazzle continuous main-beam headlamps (Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus). All of which help to underline the pioneering role of Mercedes-Benz when it comes to safety.

The trendsetting engineering of the E-Class is also reflected in its design. This has been reworked in intelligent style by Mercedes-Benz and is thus now firmly embedded in the company's current design idiom.

Although the equipment and appointments packages have been significantly enhanced, the prices for the E-Class models remain at nearly the same level as for their predecessors. Some individual models are even available at a lower price than their predecessors.

More than 13 million vehicles sold in the E-Class segment

Dr Joachim Schmidt, Member of the Board of Management Mercedes-Benz Cars responsible for Sales and Marketing: "With more than 13 million vehicles sold, the E-Class segment represents one of the key building blocks of our Mercedes-Benz 2020 growth strategy. The launches of the new E-Class family and the S-Class during 2013 mark the beginning of our most comprehensive model initiative ever in this segment and once again set clear benchmarks in terms of safety, design, quality and efficiency. The letter "E" thus continues to represent the position of leadership in this demanding segment."

Worldwide sales of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon have reached some 11,250,000 units to date. Adding to this sales success are around 1,180,000 Estates, approximately 370,000 Coupés, 240,000 CLS and some 100,000 Cabriolets from the E-Class family. The Saloon model of the current E‑Class has been the vehicle of choice for some 600,000 buyers since its market launch in 2009, while the Estate model has found a home with around 100,000 customers over the same period.

The most successful Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon so far was the model series W 123, of which 2.4 million units were sold over the nine-year period that this model was built, from 1976 until 1985.

Over the years, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been the recipient of numerous awards for design, engineering, quality and innovations. The first half of 2012 saw the current model series add further significant awards to the list:

- In May, 5000 fleet managers voted for their favourites among the manufacturers and service providers represented on their fleets for the German magazine "Flottenmanagement" (Fleet Management). In the upper medium-size category the Mercedes-Benz E-Class took Silver, along with the "Flottina" Award.

- In June, the E-Class was revealed as the leading model in the executive luxury segment in terms of customer satisfaction according to the findings of the J.D. Power Study 2012, in a repeat of the previous year's result.

- Also in June, the specialist magazine FIRMENAUTO (Company Car), together with the independent expert organisation DEKRA, made the E-Class Estate E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, as the overall winner in the upper medium-size category, their "Company car of the year".

The new E-Class, which will be celebrating its world premiere at the Auto Show in Detroit on 14 January, continues on this successful course.

After Motor Trend had the opportunity to take a ride in the updated Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG performance saloon, it is now the turn of CAR and DRIVER contributing editor Csaba Csere to chat with the most important guys from the Affalterbach-based firm on their brand new rocket. Ola Kaellenius, head of Mercedes-AMG, and Tobias Moers, development chief of the company, explain him the most important characteristics of the model which gets officially introduced to public in January at the NAIAS Detroit. Without revealing many intricate details, we learn that the 2013 E 63 AMG, which hits the American market during summer next year as a 2014MY vehicle, gets a heavily revised front fascia, a new 4x4 powertrain with a fixed, rear-biased transfer ratio of 33:67, more output for the 5.5-litre V8 BITURBO engine underneath the bonnet and further ride management and assistance systems. PREVIEW: New E-Class Coupe/Cabriolet 2013 intentionally teased in updated W/S 212 series video

Don't Copy From This Blog...

Protected by Copyscape Plagiarism Detection
Shortly after the release of the first details, the new E-Class also received a webspecial which is available at http://www.mercedes-benz.com/e-class. As always, the newest addition to the Mercedes-Benz portfolio is highlighted in great style. Artistic lighting, superb music, excellent effects and a professional filming quality - these are the main attributes that best describe the presentation video for the new E-Class 2013. Only that after closely analyzing some sequences of the movie, a detail came to light.

If you scroll the video under the Highlights tab of the webspecial to 1:26, just when it emphasizes the new DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and the Active Blind Spot Assist, you will be witnessing the LED headlight of the soon-to-be-released E-Class Coupe/Cabriolet 2013 lineup (C 207/A 207). The lamp unit is clearly different in terms of design to the W/S 212 models, as the bottom is discontinued to create a similar styling as the one on the GLK, only that in a reverted way. Moreso, the inner graphics are also slightly distinct, with their longer LED eyelids.

For us, this is a clue the new E-Class Coupe/Cabrio will also be premiered in the next period. We are not sure whether Detroit is the destination, as this was already booked by the 212 series and the new CLA-Class. Anyway, we guess first official details should come out in late January or February while the public debut could take place in March at the Geneva Motor Show. But that's only a speculation, as we do not know anything for sure.

PREVIEW: The new 2013 Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG will be an outrageous performance limo

Don't Copy From This Blog...

Protected by Copyscape Plagiarism Detection
The new 2013 generation of the Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG will be, according to sources, a true revelation among performance saloons. Not only will it have an updated styling, with a dynamic front end personalized with the addition of the fresh AMG twin-blade grille, the new headlights and the overall muscular look, but it will also boast major technical upgrades compared to the outgoing model. Motor Trend journalists were lucky enough to get a preview at a special pre-launch presentation event organized by the Affalterbach-based company and conducted by Mercedes-AMG head Ola Kaellenius and development chief Tobias Moers.

The two men gave the gathered press representatives a competent insight into the novelties the new 2013 E 63 AMG is bringing up on the market when launched in early January next year at the Detroit Motor Show.

First of all, this is the first AMG-prepped E-Class in history to utilize an all-wheel-drive traction system. It would have been an easy task to just head over to the Mercedes-Benz technology bin, pick up the already existing 4MATIC system and transplant it like so onto the new car. But, guess what? It would not have fitted the sports character of the E 63 AMG. That is why, as Tobias Moers further explains, the 4MATIC platform has undergone some severe tweaking as to deliver the desired performance. While in the standard version, it featured a variable front-to-rear ratio, in its AMG form, the 4MATIC sports a rear-biased, fixed 33%-67% transmission ratio. Moreover, many components used to build the new system are lighter or reduced in size, so that the overall kerb weight stays as low as possible.

If you were wondering what is going to happen with the V8 engine roaring under the front bonnet, then you are about to have a surprise. According to officials, the new 2013 Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG will boast an intensively modified M157 V8 BITURBO unit with state-of-the-art direct injection and biturbo-charging, with 5.5 litres in displacement and no less than 575 hp as peak output - an increase of 50 hp compared to the current 525 hp value. The maximum amount of torque is yet to be communicated, but it could be pretty well over 700 Nm.

The forthcoming E 63 AMG series will also be equipped with the revolutionary Launch Control system which is taken straight from the SLS AMG. It features four individual programs: C (Comfort), S (Sport), S+ (Sport Plus) and Race Launch. In its high-end stage and helped by a skillful driver, also together with the impressive technical capabilities already mentioned, the car can easily do 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, as Tobias Moers explains. Which is years faster than other current supercars can achieve.

The conclusion is simple, as Motor Trend journalists put it straightforward: big congrats to the AMG engineering team for their brilliant work! The upcoming Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG is already a car from the future, king in a class of its own. Now, the main competitors can't help but raise their hats as a sign of respect of front of the new king of the sports limousines' league.

LEAKED: First unofficial pictures of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2013 emerge on the internet

Don't Copy From This Blog...

Protected by Copyscape Plagiarism Detection
We were already previewing the new-generation E-Class 2013 as a major hit and now, our words are confirmed. The car we have seen for so many months hidden under black cladding is a complete departure from the curent 212 series. The first photos, which were leaked on the interwebs yesterday, emphasize the main body variants: the saloon and the estate. For the first time in the history of the model, the E-Class is available in two distinct personalities.

The Elegance version gets the classic lamella grille, which also got heavily revised in terms of styling, whereas the high-end Avantgarde lime receives an all new Star grille with two thin blades for a dynamic effect. The upcoming E 63 AMG, that arrives in early 2013, will sport company's newly premiered twin-blade grille.

Besides the different visual identities, other major changes at the front involve the new LED, single-body headlamps and the bumper with new air vents inspired from the recent concept cars of the brand. The profile lost its rear wing-placed Ponton crease and is now more elegant and upright. The rear end sports new LED tail lights with impressive inner graphics, as well as a slightly retouched protection bumper. The thin chrome strips placed on the body and the new alloy wheel designs complete the visual philosophy of the updated E-Class.

Inside, clients receive a refreshed dashboard and new quality materials. The steering wheel models, the instrument cluster, the rounder air vents and the central clock come from the CLS-Class, whereas the LCD display for the COMAND Online just got wider and also received sharper graphic capabilities.

Stay tuned to www.mercedesgla.blogspot.com and learn more about the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2013 on Thrusday, when the German constructor is expected to release the full official details and photo gallery!

The engine portfolio will also get some efficiency tweaks and output upgrades.

In a week, we shall get the first look at the new-generation E-Class for the 2013 model year, as Mercedes-Benz is expected to issue the first official pics and information on December, 13th. Following the C-Class approach, the new variants of the lineup will become more distinct through a visual treatment with great effect: the bottom-line version gets a classic chrome grille with grey louvres, the higher Elegance trim will be distinguished through its new, rounder chrome grille with black accents, whereas the range-topping Avantgarde model will get the dynamic Star grille for the first time in history.

Inside, changes will affect some key parts of the dashboard. SPY: The 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet Facelift (A 207) snagged in Stuttgart

Don't Copy From This Blog...

Protected by Copyscape Plagiarism Detection
Mercedes-Benz will soon take the veil off its newly updated E-Class family. We already know that at least the saloon and wagon flagship versions of the range shall make their official debut in January 2013 at the NAIAS Detroit. The first pictures and details over the new models are expected to come next Thursday, on the 13th December. In what the Coupe and Cabriolet variants are concerned, they should also be released pretty soon. In the latest shots, the spy photographers have scooped a lightly camouflaged prototype of the facelifted A 207 E-Class in AMG Sport trim while undergoing a road test in Stuttgart, Germany.

Both models under the 207 E-Class series for the 2013 model year will sport an entirely refreshed attitude. The new design philosophy eyes dramatic changes for the front fascia. The front apron will be completely revised as the new Star grille will become less sharper than in the past and the air intakes in the bumper will display a softer styling (inspired by the new A-Class). Actually, the biggest modification involves the eyes of the new E-Class 207 generation: no more quad headlights, but brand new single-piece lamps with intricate inner graphics and optionally available with the Intelligent Light System based on LED technology.

The rest of the car will suffer some evolutionary changes, but nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary. For the Cabriolet and also Coupe, the Ponton crease located on the rear wings have been preserved, as they can be better in the integrated in the unitary design and deliver a bold, impressive look for the two sports models. The back end receives slightly revamped tail lights, in the sense that the LEDs will form new graphics similar to those premiered this year on the new-generation GLK 2012. Moreover, the exhaust pipes on the high-end variants will become oval instead of trapezoidal like today.

The A 207 E-Class will stick to classic stuff when it comes to the architecture of the roof. For the sake of elegance, the Cabriolet will continue to feature a cloth top, orderable in three distinct colour tones to perfectly combine with the chosen exterior paint finish. As expected, the folding roof will boast complex engineering to ensure perfect thermal insulation and noise-proofness. Further breakthroughs, such as the innovative AIRCAP or the AIRSCARF neck-heating system will also be available so that running "topless" is a pleasurable experience throughout the whole year, even during winter time.

The dashboard will likely remain the same as that of the current model, but the instrument panel on the center console, the air vents and the steering wheel will be subject to an upgrade. Most of the controls will be borrowed from the CLS-Class (C 218), so expect more roundness and less roughness. Technology-wise, the 2013 E-Class Cabriolet Facelift will be updated with all the neccesary safety and communication systems and devices. Among other clever solutions, ATTENTION ASSIST, PRE-SAFE, DISTRONIC Plus, Comand Online with internet access and social profile integration are also on the equipment list.

The engine lineup will suffer some modifications. According to latest rumors, the current E 350 BlueEFFICIENCY will be replaced by the new E 400 BlueEFFICIENCY equipped with a 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 unit rated at 340 hp. The new E 500 BlueEFFICIENCY will receive a power increase from 408 hp to 435 hp. No AMG variant for the 2013MY E-Class Cabriolet is being considered at the moment.

PREVIEW: Official teaser video showcases new light design for the 2013 E-Class Facelift

The video posted below was released a few hours ago by Mercedes-Benz and we guess it is likely having a double purpose. It showcases the new eye-catching LED graphics for headlamps, but it also serves as teaser for the new-generation E-Class 2013. The first pictures and information of the revised 212 model series are to be made official on the 13th December this year, with the public reveal scheduled for early January next year at the NAIAS Detroit.

SPY: The 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet FL (A 207) scooped at photo shooting

Don't Copy From This Blog...

Protected by Copyscape Plagiarism Detection
There's not much time left till Mercedes-Benz will eventually take the wraps off the new-generation W 207/A 207 E-Class Coupe/Cabriolet for the upcoming year. The 2013 models will distinguish themselves from the outgoing series thanks to the implementation of a completely redesigned front fascia, which sports new single-piece headlamps, a new radiator grille with either two or one louvres depending on the equipment line, as well as a sporty front bumper with restyled air intakes.

The latest spy shots were captured on the site of the usual pre-launch press photo shooting. However, the crew was careful enough to cover all the crucial, exposed parts of the pictured E-Class Cabriolet with opaque white tape. It is clear that we are talking about an AMG Sport version, given the one-slat grille and the large alloy wheels with special design. The diamond white-coloured A 207 also displays a beautiful, classic soft top painted in black. The other vehicle snagged at the photo shoot out displays a beige paint job and brand new rims.

Apart from these details, we can see that the Ponton crease has actually managed to survive on the Coupe/Cabrio versions of the E-Class, despite of the fact it was already completely phased out from the Limousine/T-Modell choices. The rear end boasts a more classic approach, as it remains partially unchanged. The lamps get new inner LED graphics (similar to GLK), a revamped bumper and boot lid, as well as oval exhaust pipes instead of the current trapezoidal ones.

As for the 2013MY 212 series, the 207 facelift generation will come packed with the latest systems and technologies developed by Mercedes-Benz engineers. The high-end standard variants, the V6-powered E 350 and the V8-powered E 500, will get a power boost up to 333 hp and, respectively, 435 hp. The introduction of a new E 400 variant is also possible in Europe next year, but the first to get the new 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbocharged, direct-injection petrol unit are the E-Class Limousine & T-Modell versions. In any case, the new powerplant should be capable of delivering over 360 hp. We didn't hear anything about an AMG variant for the E-Class Coupe/Cabriolet, but if gets approved for production, then the future E 63 AMG 2-door models would get the 5.5-litre V8 BITURBO engine with near 550 hp.

UNCOVERED: First look at the new 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe (C 207) and E 63 AMG Limousine (W 212)

Don't Copy From This Blog...

The photo you see above was first posted on a Spanish automotive website, then spread quickly across the internet. It has been captured by a fan who was witnessing, from bird's eye view, the pre-launch photo session for the new-generation 2013 model year Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG high performance luxury saloon. As previously confirmed in our articles, the version "pimped" by the Affalterbach guys will display an entirely new identity.

The revised front fascia is characterized by a pair of newly designed, single-piece headlights with LED inner graphics, as well as a gargantuan air vent across the front bumper and a new Star radiator grille with twin-blade styling. This dramatic facelift brings on a striking and aggressive appearance, highly suitable for a sports limousine.

The side profile is now clean, elegant and smoothly flowing, with the criticized Ponton crease now phased out forever. The multi-spoke alloy wheels further enhance the visual package of the E 63 AMG Facelift, while the V8 BITURBO badge warns everybody this machine is not joking about its power. Even though we have not got any photo from the rear end, we speculate that the tail gate and protection bumper have been retouched with new details, whereas the lamps appear to have shrunk in size and receive new inner graphics based on LED technology.

The same business is going for the new E-Class Coupe as well, also spotted during the photo shootout. A sharper look for the 2-door vehicles has been obtained with the introduction of the single-unit headlamps with LED technology, the new single-louvre chrome grille and the muscular front bumper, a special feature for the pictured AMG SPORT version. The rear-wing crease is history and the tail lights get the same treatment as in the case of the sedan E-Class.

Expect further changes for the interior of the new E-Class 2013 lineup, including the consequent AMG variants. But for that, we just have to wait for the official press images, which should be released by mid-December this year, together with a consistent dose of details. Look for the standard E-Class models to be the highlight of the Mercedes-Benz stand at NAIAS Detroit in January; the AMG models could come a bit later, towards Geneva Motor Show.

SPY: The 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Avantgarde Facelift (W 212/S 212) showcases new attitude

Don't Copy From This Blog...

Protected by Copyscape Plagiarism Detection
Mercedes-Benz is on to something big with the new E-Class Facelift, prone to be unleashed during the next period. For the first time in the long history of the executive range, an E-Class model will display the attractive, sporty Star radiator grille.

This stylistic make-up looks more like a marketing strategy by the same successful recipe applied on the new C-Class 204 model series. While the classic, traditional chrome grille will continue to be offered as a standard, distinctive feature for the front fascias of the entry-level and Elegance versions of the E-Class, the Avantgarde trim line (and the E 63 AMG models) will now be better individualized in the portfolio.

The high-end variant is all about dynamism, in addition to being a very well equipped limousine and everyday partner for the wealthy clients of the brand. The astonishing grille, that dominates the front end, displays a soft edges and a rounder design, as well as a large logo in the middle and two thin louvres. Moreover, many of the sharp lines of the current series will be gone and replaced by smooth, artistic details, like the oval exhausts that evolved from the trapezoidal pipes of today.

The daring approach of Mercedes-Benz towards the upcoming E-Class Facelift should practically translate into higher sales numbers and more effective weapons to fight against rivals Audi A6 and BMW 5er, which were launched later than the 212 series that came on the market in 2009.
