PREVIEW: The future 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe (C 217) artistically rendered

Mercedes-Benz has recently started the road testing phase of the forthcoming S-Class Cabriolet and along with it, as sources claim, the future S-Class Coupe. As overall proportions indicate, both 2-door S-Class models will sport a generous wheelbase and a very athletic silhouette. The philosophy, while remaining classic, will combine traditional styling elements well known for a true Mercedes-Benz model with a more progressive approach in certain areas such as the front end and the tail section.

The facial appearance, as suggested by the computer-generated image posted above (opera of Romanian designer Andrei Avarvarii), will be rather impressive. The large Star grille with a single chrome louvre and Diamond trim (for the high end AMG Sport versions), while not being pointed any more, will still dominate the whole architecture with its sharp details. The shape of the intelligent LED headlamps will be inspired from the latest showcars like the F 800 Style and F 125!, while the beautifully sculpted air intakes will further add to the cohesive design of the front fascia.

The sides of the C 217 will be a harmony of elegant lines, all so familiar for those accustomed with the Mercedes-Benz coupe vehicles. Despite the current trend, the future S-Class Coupe will not display a busy profile design; while still retaining a superior, dropping lines that extends towards the rear shoulder of the body, the finished result would be better characterized as clean and effective. The arched greenhouse, a motif seen on every 2-door version from the Stuttgart-based carmaker, will further enhance sheer luxury of the car.

The CGI does not present the rear end of the S-Class Coupe, but we can speculate that it will be identical to the one on the A 217 S-Class Cabriolet sibling. The muscular boot lid, visible in the first spy photos, will make the most of the back side, while the LED tail lights will be moved towards the extremities. A discrete wing, acting towards improving aerodynamic drag on the rear wheels, willbe evenly integrated into the whole design.

Illustration: Autobild's Larson renders the 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Facelift (W 212)

The forthcoming E-Class Facelift generation under the W/S 212 model series will say goodbye to the four-eyed fascia and welcome the brand new dynamic face, in term with Merc's latest design language. Using hints from inside the company and the bunch of spy shots that have appeared so far, the renowned car artist Larson sketched what seems to be a very close-to-reality 2013 E-Class.

The main motif of the front end is the new chromed radiator grille, now displaying a more sophisticated design and bordered by the striking single-piece headlights which will be optionally available with full LED Intelligent Light System. The apron you see in the image is rendered in AMG Style, but the standard model will certainly be less aggressive and more refined, with revised styling as well and new air intakes. The LED strips will dissapear from here and be integrated in the headlamps as well, with thin chrome bars replacing them in their original location.

PREVIEW: New S-Class gets illustrated by Autobild + fresh scoops of the W 222 generation

Information is that Mercedes-Benz took the decision to prolong the development phase of the future S-Class generation. Initially reported to make its global premiere at the Mondial de l'Automobile salon in Paris this autumn, the luxury flagship under the Three-Pointed Star brand will eventually be showcased on the stage of the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013. Detroit Motor Show in January next year seems very unlikely, as that event was already booked by the new E-Class facelift series (W 212), an important model that would face the situation of being "ripped off" the desired attention by the bigger S. In the mean time, testing for this model continues undetered in various locations all over the world.

Mercedes-Benz last debuted the S-Class at Geneva almost 20 years ago, when the W 140 generation got released, a car that caused a stir in the automotive industry and soon became global trendsetting leader in the luxury segment. Nonetheless, the 2013 S-Class is already being entitled a revolution among the reputed car journalists. Not only will it mark the launch of a new, progressive, anti-wedge, clearly defined and structured styling language for the Stuttgart-based constructor, but it will also highlight the introduction of visionary, ultra-futuristic equipments such as the Beltbag, the Braking Bag, the all new full LED Intelligent Light System, the MAGIC RIDE CONTROL radar-scan system, the MAGIC BODY CONTROL, the Autonomous Driving Pilot, the accident-mitigating technology, the enhanced 360-degree, all-round supervising camera, the new generations of DISTRONIC PLUS and Night Vision Assist, the @yourCOMAND integrated telematics and many more.

Moreover, Mercedes-Benz shall also debut a complete lineup of new engines, both diesel and gasoline, that were specifically engineered for maximum performance and functioning efficiency. From the bottom-line S 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY with over 204 hp and up to the range-topping, V8-powered S 500 with 450 hp or more, every powerplant choice will be new, according to internal sources. For the U.S. market and later on for Europe as well, the German carmaker will also launch the frugal BLUETEC units and the S 450 variant with over 360 hp. The S 400 HYBRID will also be retained and become more efficient and powerful. Another long-awaited variant is the S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID which is slated to come late 2014 and feature a V6 petrol engine and an electric motor, boasting a combined power of over 400 hp. Both traditional, high-end AMG versions will also be offered starting late 2013 or early 2014: the V8 S 63 AMG with around 560 hp and the V12 S 65 AMG with 630 hp. If this is not enough, the exquisite S 600 V12 will see the light of day through 2015, as Mercedes-Benz will develop its brand new 12-cylinder powerplant, sporting over 550 hp, in cooperation with AMG. An all-electric S-Class seems unprobable at the moment, but the partnership with Tesla means such model could spawn some time in the long-term future.

Speaking of the exterior design, the new S-Class will gain an imposing stance and more coherence thanks to the bold styling philosophy which beautifully combines key visual elements from the Ocean Drive Concept (the solid, muscular shoulders and the clean, athletic profile), the F 700 research vehicle (the round, softened, more upright and wider chromed radiator grille and the elegant back end tail lights) and the F 800 Style prototype (inspiration for the design of front apron).

Illustration: New artist impression offers a glimpse of the future Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W 222)

We are not so very far away from the official premiere of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, programmed to happen at Paris, during the Mondial de l'Automobile starting end of September 2012. Apart from the obvious advances the W 222 will bring alongside, the design philosophy adopted for the new car is yet to remain shrouded in mystery until the first pictures of the real car will emerge in the near future. In the last two years, many different computer renditions tried to throw light on this business.

The most accurate, even though initially criticized, is the rendering delivered in 2010 by Larson, the visual artist promoted by German auto magazine Autobild (see HERE). All those that followed were either similar or blatantly distinct (sometimes, rather illusionary). The latest illustration comes from BenzBoost and builds up on the Larson example.

As you may see, the S-Class will boast a classic styling, with an equity regarding powerful and balanced design characteristics. The front end embarks on a new philosophy: the key elements here are the chromed radiator grille, harking back to the traditional predecessors of the 60s and 70s, and the intelligent headlight technology based up on a complex full LED system and an array of radars that scan the road ahead. The front apron has also become more sculptural, baring inspiration from the latest concept cars released by Mercedes-Benz.

While the greenhouse retains its original, rakish architecture, the profile has lost the heavy-bulged wheel arches of the W 221 series and is now boasting a fresh, even approach with simple, yet effective accents. The tail section receives a new pair of LED lights, which are certainly looking mindblowing when they are functioning. The trunk gate and the rear apron feature stronger, highlighted edges that make them stand apart when looked at.

All in all, we can conclude the new S-Class (W 222), this year's and the all-time most important model from Mercedes-Benz, is shaping up really nicely. The fact the new generation will certainly be a worthy successor of the previous series and an upscale replacement for the outgoing Maybach is definitely a winning card for the German constructor, which will rapidly pay off when the new Star officially hits streets in 2013.

Illustration: Autobild's Larson digitally imagines the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W 205)

Larson, the famous designer collaborating with Germany's Autobild magazine, is known worldwide for providing the most accurate computer rendering for future cars, at least in what Mercedes-Benz' forthcoming models are concerned. The latest CGI offers an insight into the exterior design of the next generation C-Class (205 series), bound to arrive during spring 2014.

The current styling language of the Stuttgart house will evolve in a remarkable way with the advent of the new C-Class lineup of mid-size premium vehicles. The inspirational image from above shows the W 205 will boast spectacular proportions and a confident stance, moving away from the current, toned-down wedge shape. Instead, the new Star in the Mercedes-Benz garage will feature a dynamic design, described by an imposing front end sporting an upright grille and a set of angry-looking headlights with LED technology creating intricate inner graphics.

The attributes defining the sides of the 2014 C-Class are "muscular, yet impressively clean and elegant". Gone are the fussy creases - we should now get a proper Benz with an evident, strong shoulder line making the most of the profile. The car will also receive new door handles and a pair of new, aerodynamically-adapted, blinker-equipped exterior mirrors, that reduce the drag coefficient (Cd) and improve the rear view thanks to the greater reflective surface.

In the absence of a rendition showcasing the back end of the C-Class, we can only speculate the final result will indeed help finish the entire design in a round and cohesive way. Expect some astonishing lamps with a cool effect courtesy of LEDs.
