Advanced multimedia systems and practical transport solutions are the core of the genuine accessories range for the new Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. The line-up includes over 160 high-end products at the launch of the first-class SUV.

Comfort, safety, elegance, efficiency – the new GL-Class from Mercedes-Benz shows leadership qualities in all key SUV categories, making it the S-Class among cross-country vehicles. In parallel with the market launch of the first-class SUV, Mercedes-Benz Accessories GmbH is now presenting first-class accessories. The major highlights of the extensive range are provided below.

Powerful dynamics: striking add-on parts and attractive wheels

The off-roader's imposing styling is emphasised by running boards with LED lighting (1299 euros [1]) and rugged stainless-steel inlays for easy entry and exit, as well as fin attachments for the air intakes on the bonnet (149 euros). The six-part set is made of galvanised high-gloss chrome-plated synthetic material and can be mounted easily and securely. High-gloss chrome-plated door handle recesses (59 euros) add a further visual touch.

The sportiness of the SUV is highlighted by styling components from the high-performance brand AMG. Available for the new GL-Class are, amongst other things: AMG front and rear aprons (price on request), AMG door pins made from high-quality stainless steel (40 euros) and AMG door sill panels in brushed stainless steel. The latter are available in two variants: illuminated white (price on request) and without illumination (price on request).

The range of attractive 18, 19, and 20-inch light-alloy wheels is extensive. The genuine accessories range from Mercedes-Benz features new products such as distinctive high-sheen 10-spoke wheels for 275/50 R 20 tyres in himalaya grey.

Front and rear mud flaps (95 euros per set) protect against dirt and scratches on the side areas, at the rear and on the underbody. Matched to the vehicle contour, the genuine accessory products retain the sporty appearance of the new GL-Class.

Entertained and always up-to-date: advanced multimedia solutions

In tandem with Daimler's Digital DriveStyle app, the Drive Kit Plus for the iPhone® (750 euros) enables seamless integration of the iPhone® into the GL. Amongst others, the highlights include the advanced navigation solution from Garmin®, Google® online Point Of Interest searches with Street View™, and 3D map depiction. Further functions are: Facebook®, Twitter®, internet radio, AUPEO!™ personal radio and Glympse, the real-time location sharing app. Glympse provides a way to share your current location with selected individuals. The Drive Kit Plus for the iPhone® 4/4S will be available in the first quarter of 2013.

With the iPad® Rear Integration Plus docking station (329 euros [2]), the Apple® iPad®, iPad® 2 and iPad® 3 tablet PC models can be accommodated safely and ergonomically with all the usual functions in the vehicle's rear compartment. All jacks and ports (such as for the headphones) remain accessible. The docking station can be tilted 90 degrees. In addition, the iPad® battery can be charged via an integrated USB port by means of a charging cable.

Alternatively, a portable iPad® Rear Integration unit is available for 229 euros. This unit is also suitable for the iPad®, iPad® 2 and iPad® 3 and simply attaches to the headrest pillar. It can therefore be removed at any time.

First-class entertainment in the second row is also made possible with the Rear Entertainment System, which is available as a portable kit (1249 euros [3]) or as a permanently installed version [4]. The portable kit includes two 17.8-cm displays with an integrated DVD player with docking station, as well as two infrared headsets and an infrared remote control.

The Becker® MAP PILOT (654.50 euros [5]) provides an inexpensive navigation solution for Audio 20 CD. Advantages include integrated control via the central control element, voice output via the vehicle loudspeakers and display on the Audio 20 screen, discreet fitting in the glove box and update and add-on capability via an internet portal.

The new Mercedes-Benz telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP) [6] also combines a number of multimedia functions. The telephone module with integrated UMTS module and direct connection to the vehicle antenna provides a fast, stable and secure connection of COMAND Online with the internet. What's more, Mercedes-Benz apps can also be used at the same time as the telephone, for example. The driver can even have text messages read aloud to them.

Of course, in terms of telematics, the accessories range also includes a variety of cradles for popular mobile phones from Apple, RIM and Nokia (from 80 euros).

For the roof and trailer tow hitch: practical transport solutions

With the Alustyle Easy-Fix II basic carrier bars for rails (229 euros), a particularly user-friendly basic carrier bar is available for the Mercedes GL. The carrier bars can be fitted to the roof in just a few steps which can easily be carried out by anyone, without special tools, namely: pre-tension until you hear a click and then tighten using the fastening lever.

The basic carrier bars can also be combined with bicycle racks or ski and snowboard racks (from 99 euros), as well as genuine roof boxes (from 375 euros). The models with a capacity of 330, 400 and 450 litres can be opened from both sides and can be complemented with practical luggage sets (from 137 euros). A further plus: the box's 3-latch locking system provides effective protection against theft.

Alternatively a rear-mounted bicycle rack for the trailer tow hitch is available and can be used to transport two or three bicycles (price: 499 and 599 euros, respectively). The rear-mounted bicycle rack can be locked and folded to a compact size when not in use.

Order in the load compartment is ensured by practical transport solutions such as a luggage net (32 euros), a boot tub (high/low version available; from 80 euros) and a special plug-in module (99 euros). These allow the boot to be partitioned in a number of ways and prevent any loads from moving around. The telescopic rods for the plug-in module are secured with floor clips along the outer edges of the cargo floor.

Over 100 top quality and practical products are among the Genuine Accessories on offer from Mercedes-Benz for the new CLS Shooting Brake. Advanced telematics systems, comfortable transport solutions and chic light-alloy wheels are particularly in focus.

The Drive Kit Plus for the iPhone® (690 euros [1]), together with the Digital DriveStyle app specially-developed by Daimler, makes it possible to seamlessly integrate an iPhone® in the CLS Shooting Brake. Among the highlights is the advanced navigation solution from Garmin® with internet-based real-time traffic information, online POI search including Street View™ and 3D map view. Further functions include: Facebook®, Twitter®, internet radio, AUPEO!™ Personal Radio and the real-time location-sharing system Glympse. Glympse allows you to share your current position in a targeted manner with selected people. The Drive Kit Plus for the iPhone® is available from the first quarter of 2013.

With the iPad® Rear Integration Plusdocking station (329 euros [2]), integration of Apple's® iPad®, iPad® 2 and iPad® 3 into the rear of the vehicle is both ergonomic and crash-safe. What's more, owners won't have to renounce any of its functionality. All connections, such as for the headphones, are still accessible. The holder can be tilted and also rotated through 90°. Via an integrated USB interface, one can even use the charging cable to recharge the battery of the iPad®.

As an alternative, a portable iPad® Rear Integration kit is also available for 229 euros. This bracket is also suitable for iPad®, iPad® 2 or iPad® 3 and is simply attached to the struts of the head restraints, thus it is also easy to remove at any time.

First-class entertainment in the second row of seats is also provided by the Rear Seat Entertainment System (684 euros [3]), which includes two 17.8 cm screens with integrated DVD player, USB and SD-card interfaces, as well as infrared headphones and remote control.

The Becker® MAP PILOT (654.50 euros [4]) offers a favourably priced navigation solution for retrofitting to Audio 20 CD. Advantages include: integrated operation via the central controller, output of spoken instructions via the vehicle loudspeakers, display on the screen of Audio 20, well-hidden location in the glove compartment, as well as the ability to update or expand the system via an internet portal.

A number of multimedia functions are also combined in the new Mercedes-Benz Telephone module with Bluetooth® (SAP) [5]. The Telephone module with integrated UMTS module and direct connection to the vehicle antenna ensures rapid, stable and safe connection of COMAND Online to the internet. It is then possible to simultaneously use Mercedes-Benz Apps whilst also making a phone call. Text messages can also be read out to the driver.

Under the keyword "Telematics", one can also find an extensive selection of telephone cradles (starting from 80 euros).

Comfortable transport solutions

Despite practicality not standing in the foreground of the Shooting Brake's design, it is still a multi-faceted vehicle for everyday use. And thanks to Genuine Accessories, the leisure value of the vehicle climbs yet further: for example, a rear-mounted cycle rack for attachment to the trailer coupling is available in two versions; one for two bikes (499 euros) and one for three bikes (599 euros). Practical: thanks to clever mechanics, it is still possible to open the luggage compartment with the rack fitted; to save space when stowing away the bike rack, it can be even folded up.

Those who prefer transporting their sports equipment on the roof can opt for the Alustyle basic carrier bars (399 euros) and combine them with a bike rack or a ski and snowboard rack (from 99 euros). Alternatively, genuine roof boxes from Mercedes-Benz are available in three sizes(from 375 euros). The models with capacities of 330, 400 and 450 litres can be opened from both sides. A further positive point: the 3-latch mechanism of the lockable transport containers offers effective protection against theft.

Chic light-alloy wheels

Equally broad is the range of attractive light-alloy wheels: in total, there are 25 wheel variants available in the formats 17", 18" and 19". Particularly impressive are the 10-spoke wheels with black, high-sheen surfaces (in the format8.5 J x 19 for 421 euros and optionally for the rear axle in the format 9.5 J x 19 for 427 euros) and the 5-twin-spoke wheels in titanium silver (in the format 8.5 J x 18 for 342 euros and alternatively for the rear axle in the format 9.5 J x 18 for 347 euros).

Personalised interior

A touch of personal chic in the interior can be added with the illuminated door sill panels (from 665 euros) and wood/leather steering wheels in almond beige or black with burr walnut or poplar (792 euros). Thanks to the three child seat models BABY-SAFE plus II (319 euros), DUO plus (from 377 euros) and KIDFIX (from 259 euros), children of different weight classes can travel safe and sound in the new Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake.

Keeping the luggage compartment of the Shooting Brake tidy are useful Accessories solutions like a boot tub with slightly raised edge (80 euros), a collapsible shopping crate (11 euros) or a plug-in module for dividing up the luggage compartment (99 euros).

Genuine roof boxes for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars: A second luggage compartment for long trips

Don't Copy From This Blog...

Genuine roof boxes from Mercedes-Benz are characterised by their practical functionality, elegant design and generous transport volumes. The robust and easy-to-mount roof boxes are available in three sizes, with capacities of 330, 400[1]and 450 litres. A common feature of the boxes is that they can be opened from both sides. A further bonus is that the three-point locking system on the transport containers provides effective theft protection. The Alustyle roof carrier systems, which have been precisely tailored to the body sizes and shapes of most Mercedes-Benz passenger car models, form the attachment base for the luggage boxes.

The miracle space-maker: the roof box 450

The Mercedes-Benz roof box 450 is the miracle space-maker among the portable roof boxes in the genuine accessories range from Mercedes-Benz Accessories, and was thoroughly revised in the autumn of 2011. With dimensions of 220 x 80 x 40 cm, its load volume of 450 litres is equivalent to that of a C-Class boot. This means the box can provide enough space for the winter sports gear of a family of four, for example, and the equipment stays fully protected from dirt and splash water.

The grooved plates, with which the box is secured in the T-slot of the roof carrier, have also been optimised. Just a few turns are all that is needed to tighten them, and the wing nuts have been integrated into the box itself so that they can no longer go astray. Mercedes-Benz Accessories made this change in response to frequent requests from customers.

The shape was also revised, and the “dropping line” geometry reflects the design idiom of current Mercedes-Benz models. As well as the classic colour choice of matte silver, in which the surface of the box is slightly grained, the box is also available in metallic black. The roof box 450 has a load capacity of 75 kilograms and offers users plenty of space to plan their holidays and leisure time flexibly and according to individual needs. It weighs just 19 kilograms. A new feature is the six metal rings to secure the three tension straps, which protect the load inside.

The specially developed accessories, which have been exactly tailored to the interior dimensions of the roof box, offer even more options and greater travel enjoyment. For example, there is the practical, six-piece luggage set. Consisting of four roomy bags and two separate ski bags, it provides optimum protection and convenient transport for four pairs of skis and other travel and sports accessories. An especially user-friendly feature: in bad weather, the bags can be packed indoors, in the comfort of your home or holiday accommodation. The design of the luggage set features typical Mercedes-Benz quality, with the bags made from hard-wearing, water-resistant material.

Thanks to the handy shoulder straps included in the set, the bags can also be used outside the roof box. Another practical feature is the ski rack insert for the roof box, offering a secure hold for up to five pairs of skis.

The multifunction box: roof box 400

Featuring the same stylish design and practical advantages as the roof box 450, but with dimensions specially tailored to more compact vehicles, the roof box 400 will be launched on the market in September. It has a capacity of 400 litres, and is 70 cm wide and 40 cm high, but just 190 cm in length: this allows the rear door of the new A-Class to be opened even when the roof box 400 is mounted. Special handles, 80 cm in length and made from an anodised aluminium profile, make it easier to close and prevent the lid jamming when closing. Needless to say, the multifunction box can also be mounted on all other vehicles. The box has an unladen weight of approx. 16 kg and can accommodate a payload of 75 kg.

There is a luggage set for the roof box 400 as well, consisting of three bags together with a ski bag for two pairs of skis, which can be up to 170 cm long. The ski bag is also available separately.

The sports box: roof box 330

The sports box, with a volume of approx. 330 litres, provides additional luggage space in the format of a compact class boot. It is available in the colours titanium metallic and matte silver. A luggage set consisting of four bags and a ski rack insert for up to three pairs of skis is also available for this box as an optional extra. With a payload of up to 50 kilograms, this transport box is also suitable for transporting heavy loads. An advantage of the sports box is that, as well as the box, depending on the vehicle, there is still room on the roof for a further ski or snowboard rack, or a bicycle rack. The roof box 330 weighs 14 kg, and its dimensions are 220 x 60 x 41 cm.

Simple fitting and practical details

If you need to, you can fit the roof box on your own, without requiring additional tools. This is possible thanks to a convenient sliding fastening system, and also thanks to the low weight of the boxes themselves. High-quality pneumatic springs also make it easy to open and close the roof box, which is splash-water protected and made of high-quality plastic. Using the standard tension straps, valuable cargo can be securely fixed in place.

In an accident situation, all the roof boxes offer a high level of safety. They undergo stringent German Technical Inspection Authority (TÜV) and “City Crash” testing, and must also meet the rigorous Mercedes-Benz standards that go well beyond the legal requirements. For example, the tilt/sliding sunroof must open and close smoothly even when the roof box is mounted.
