The video posted below was released a few hours ago by Mercedes-Benz and we guess it is likely having a double purpose. It showcases the new eye-catching LED graphics for headlamps, but it also serves as teaser for the new-generation E-Class 2013. The first pictures and information of the revised 212 model series are to be made official on the 13th December this year, with the public reveal scheduled for early January next year at the NAIAS Detroit.

SPY: The 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet FL (A 207) scooped at photo shooting

There's not much time left till Mercedes-Benz will eventually take the wraps off the new-generation W 207/A 207 E-Class Coupe/Cabriolet for the upcoming year. The 2013 models will distinguish themselves from the outgoing series thanks to the implementation of a completely redesigned front fascia, which sports new single-piece headlamps, a new radiator grille with either two or one louvres depending on the equipment line, as well as a sporty front bumper with restyled air intakes.

The latest spy shots were captured on the site of the usual pre-launch press photo shooting. However, the crew was careful enough to cover all the crucial, exposed parts of the pictured E-Class Cabriolet with opaque white tape. It is clear that we are talking about an AMG Sport version, given the one-slat grille and the large alloy wheels with special design. The diamond white-coloured A 207 also displays a beautiful, classic soft top painted in black. The other vehicle snagged at the photo shoot out displays a beige paint job and brand new rims.

Apart from these details, we can see that the Ponton crease has actually managed to survive on the Coupe/Cabrio versions of the E-Class, despite of the fact it was already completely phased out from the Limousine/T-Modell choices. The rear end boasts a more classic approach, as it remains partially unchanged. The lamps get new inner LED graphics (similar to GLK), a revamped bumper and boot lid, as well as oval exhaust pipes instead of the current trapezoidal ones.

As for the 2013MY 212 series, the 207 facelift generation will come packed with the latest systems and technologies developed by Mercedes-Benz engineers. The high-end standard variants, the V6-powered E 350 and the V8-powered E 500, will get a power boost up to 333 hp and, respectively, 435 hp. The introduction of a new E 400 variant is also possible in Europe next year, but the first to get the new 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbocharged, direct-injection petrol unit are the E-Class Limousine & T-Modell versions. In any case, the new powerplant should be capable of delivering over 360 hp. We didn't hear anything about an AMG variant for the E-Class Coupe/Cabriolet, but if gets approved for production, then the future E 63 AMG 2-door models would get the 5.5-litre V8 BITURBO engine with near 550 hp.

SPY: First shots revealing the dashboard of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class FL (W/S 212)

Mercedes-Benz will release the first details and photos of its new, restyled 2013 model year E-Class range (W/S 212) by mid-December, with the official premiere due to take place in January at the Detroit Motor Show. Although we are talking about a car that gets a refreshment in the middle of its programmed lifespan, the business models of the German carmaker will receive multiple upgrades, both in the design and technology departments. While the E-Class Facelift will not entirely be a revolution, it will definitely be a very attractive choice in the premium segment where it belongs to.

During this time, engineers continue the hard work at finishing the 2013 E-Class series with various testing sessions held all across the globe. The last scoops have recently been captured on the Nurburgring circuit in Germany, when a heavily camouflaged S 212 T-Modell prototype was spotted by the watchful automotive photographers.

In a previous article (see HERE), we have discussed about the exterior looks of the new-generation E-Class, so we will not insist on this part, but rather focus on the interior, as the first-ever shots that reveal the dashboard of the model have emerged on the internet lately. Even though the photos lack quality due to some inherent darkness the heavy cladding, we can decide upon several visible arguments.

The current specification of the E-Class proposes a rough, very cold approach to premium styling when we look at the dashboard. Inspired from the 124 generation, the 212 series has been a true a remake of the automotive icon of the late '80s. However, an update is always welcome and the facelift version will display a reworked interior. The dashboard has been functionally improved with new commands and controls and will boast a styling similar to that of the CLS. Softer, rounder lines instead of the squares and angles you've been familiar with, a new multi-functional steering wheel, as well as a new instrument cluster, a bigger and more lightful LCD display for the COMAND Online infotainment assistant and a revised center console are expected. Moreso, the 2013 E-Class FL will share the air vents and the central clock with the luxury 4-door coupe. For a refined atmosphere, the quality of materials and components used for the interior has been radically improved. A rich list of personalization choices will wait for the clients to choose the configuration that best suites their tastes: Nappa, Alcantara, ARTICO leather upholstery in various tones; walnut, oak, ash tree wood or aluminium trims; plus the dedicated designo customization programme.

Illustration: Autobild's Larson renders the 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Facelift (W 212)

The forthcoming E-Class Facelift generation under the W/S 212 model series will say goodbye to the four-eyed fascia and welcome the brand new dynamic face, in term with Merc's latest design language. Using hints from inside the company and the bunch of spy shots that have appeared so far, the renowned car artist Larson sketched what seems to be a very close-to-reality 2013 E-Class.

The main motif of the front end is the new chromed radiator grille, now displaying a more sophisticated design and bordered by the striking single-piece headlights which will be optionally available with full LED Intelligent Light System. The apron you see in the image is rendered in AMG Style, but the standard model will certainly be less aggressive and more refined, with revised styling as well and new air intakes. The LED strips will dissapear from here and be integrated in the headlamps as well, with thin chrome bars replacing them in their original location.

PREVIEW: The 2013 Mercedes-Benz E-Class FL (W/S 212) - latest scoops and a few renderings

The 212 model generation has been on the market since spring 2009 and is now scheduled to undergo a facelift procedure intented to keep the business models under the Star brand up-to-date and appealing to new customers. The revised E-Class, in both sedan and wagon variants, is slated to make its official debut in January 2013, at the Detroit Motor Show, with the market launch and delivery commencing right after by March. From what we were able to see so far thanks to previous spy shots, Mercedes-Benz is hiding some big changes under the black cladding of the prototypes.

The most radical rehaul is planned for the front fascia, as the new-generation W/S 212 E-Class is about to drop the quad headlight design that made it so recognizable in the industry since the W 210 was out almost 20 years ago in favour of a more dynamic, fresh and striking look deeply influenced by the latest products of the German brand. Specifically, the car will receive a brand new pair of intelligent, LED-based single-piece headlamps. Moreover, the grill will become rounder, more upright and more sophisticated, stylistically speaking.

The new front apron will introduce into serial production the intricate, curvaceous design for the air intakes we've already seen on the F 800 Style research vehicle and which is to be implemented on all the new Mercedes-Benz models which are bound to be released in the next period of time. Although the street testing cars don't show it, the final E-Class Facelift will be stripped off the Ponton crease in an effort to create a clean, straight, yet elegant and beautifully flowing profile. The back end will suffer minor updates, among which are worth mentioning the new tail LED tail lamps with different inner graphics and sharper details on the trunk lid and and rear bumper.

Inside, we expect designers to implement a slightly new attitude in terms of styling. Most probably, the new E-Class FL range will feature company's latest steering wheel designs, in addition to a new instrument cluster and a functionally-improved center console. New assistance and comfort technologies as well as the newest iteration of the internet-based COMAND Online infotainment are prone to showcase when the car is unveiled next year.

There will also be some important modifications across the entire engine lineup. Every powerplant gets standard start/stop function and added efficiency measures grouped under the successful BlueEFFICIENCY package of green technologies. Gasoline, diesel and hybrid - there is a right choice to suit any taste. From the E 200 BE variant with 156 hp up to the mighty E 63 AMG cranking out a massive 525 hp, the new E-Class will boast a rich offer where to choose from. Some peak output upgrades are also possible: the new E 350 BE will now deliver 340 hp, whereas the range-topping E 500 BE should now be rated at 435 hp instead the current 408 hp.

Prices for the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Facelift are still surrounded by mystery, but they won't certainly look very different from the current tags. To help you make a clearer picture on the new design philosophy to be emphasized on the forthcoming business class models from Stuttgart, we have gathered a comprehensive gallery of the latest spy shots and computer-generated images. We invite you to take a look through them. Enjoy!
