The SLS AMG Roadster is the best cabriolet and the G-Class the best off-road car according to the results of a recent German readers' poll by specialist car magazine "auto, motor und sport". The specialist car magazine "auto, motor und sport" has been giving readers the chance to vote for the "Best cars of the year" for over three decades now. This year, around 112 000 participants took part in what has now become a somewhat traditional readers' competition. Readers voted for the best cars of the year 2013 across ten different categories. In the cabriolet category, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster overtook the competition to move into pole position and be awarded the title of best car of 2013. Readers not only honoured its unique and fascinating style, but also its technological prowess. The super sports car impresses with its consistent implementation of lightweight construction methods, its well thought-out driving dynamics, and its exemplary levels of safety. All of this is backed up by a one-of-a-kind technology package comprising an aluminium space frame body, AMG 6.3-litre V8 front mid-engine with 420 kW (571 hp) and a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. This combination guarantees the best possible level of driving dynamics.
Mercedes-Benz has once again significantly upgraded the G-Class last year, so re-emphasising its position as the leader among off-road vehicles. The interior is characterised by high-quality appointments finished with exquisite materials. The instrument cluster and centre console have been completely redesigned. The driver's field of vision now encompasses a colour screen, between two new round dials. The car features as standard the sophisticated COMAND Online infotainment system, including a navigation system and internet access. New LED daytime driving lamps and new exterior mirrors bring a few discreet changes to the appearance of the luxury off-roader. The range of safety equipment can be optionally enhanced with the addition of Blind Spot Assist, the parking aid PARKTRONIC and the adaptive cruise control system DISTRONIC PLUS. New to the range are the G 63 AMG with an eight-cylinder biturbo engine and the ECO start/stop system as standard, and the G 65 AMG with twelve-cylinder biturbo engine.

For the ninth time, the LA Auto Show starting at the end of November in the USA will be host of the famous Design Challenge competition, where talented stylists working for important automotive constructors are showcasing their outstanding ideas on the car of the future. This year's theme is: Highway Patrol Vehicle 2025.Mercedes-Benz will take part in the event with the project that pictures the police patrolling SUV of 2025: the ENER-G-FORCE. The prototype does not exist solely on paper, but has also been transposed into a 1:1 model, that we look forward to see unveiled on the stage of the American salon alongside other major premieres.
We cannot simply label this as "just another concept". The ENER-G-FORCE concept car has been penned by a team of enthusiastic designers from the Advanced Design Center in California, led by Hubert Lee, a young and talented artist. Even though the styling of the car is crazy and will never make it to series production (at least, not in this form), we wonder if this otherwise mind-blowing study could signal future additions to the SUV lineup of Mercedes-Benz.
First of all, the general shape is rugged, but the modern interpretation also adds sort of harmony of interesting curves that blend very well with the whole architecture. The good ol' daddy G-Class served as inspiration, and you can sense that even in the name, which highlights the magical letter G. After 2015, when the current manufacturing contract with Magna-Steyr expires, there's a real possibility the G-Class could be discontinued from 2016 onwards. But, there are also chances the partnership is extended up to 2020 or, more or less fantastic, a worthy, modern successor, in fact a second generation G-Class, could come into force. The ENER-G-FORCE is looking to be a very attractive opportunity to begin with in the development of the next G-Class series.
Secondly, Mercedes-Benz wants to diversify its portfolio of compact niche models and rumors about a possible baby G-Class model coming in around two years have been appearing pretty often lately. If it ever sees the light of day, the GLG, because that's the rumored title for the car, will be developed on company's MFA platform and display a boxy, yet highly modern and appealing exterior design. Definitely, the anticipated GLG will be a car that aims to stand out of the crowd and have that all-so-desired "wow factor". And, last but not least, the young clients will be impressed by these attributes, because this is the main public this compact SUV is addressed to. As in the other, the ENER-G-FORCE could be a highly valuable resource for some crazy and dramatic design experiments that immediately impress when admired.
Look for further official details on the Mercedes-Benz ENER-G-FORCE in the next period while we approach the press days of the 2012 Los Angeles Motor Show. Stay tuned to www.mercedesgla.blogspot.com to find out the hottest stuff on this topic!.jpg)

Lincoln Center is a buzz with the start of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (#MBFW) as it gets underway from September 6-13, 2012 with a line-up of over 100 designers showing their Spring 2013 Collections. Among the most world-renowned designers, Mercedes-Benz is highlighting a fashion icon of its own, the all-new 2013 G-Class available as the G550 or the G63 AMG with V8 Bi-Turbo engine. Conceived thirty-three years ago, the G-Class "G-Wagon" is one of the most highly-recognizable luxury off-road vehicles. It is dressed up while cruising the cobblestone streets of SOHO, and athletic while seriously going off-road. The sculpted, muscular body and hand crafted interior of the all-new 2013 G-Class is fit for fashion and its design and capabilities will come to life in the main lobby of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center.
In a high-end gym setting, the G-Class will sit center stage showing off its indestructible yet beautiful design that has been carefully crafted by hand, from the ground up, with the purest and most technically-advanced materials. Forty hours of craftsmanship are evident in the welded steel body frame, giving it the upright shape and athletic appearance it is infamous for.
The G-Class will also star in an invite-only media event that explores fit for fashion with Barry's Bootcamp, hosted by their COO and celebrity trainer, Joey Gonzalez, Olympian Alex Morgan and top model Joan Smalls. Joey and his team have created workout moves that incorporate the G-Class and fashion fitness. Whether participating in the designer handbag heist, to see which fashionista can lift the heaviest haul, shaping legs with lunges to fit into skinny jeans or packing the G-Class trunk via squats from the day's shopping spree, guests will walk away with tips on how to be fit for fashion during the frenetic week of shows until the season's Spring Collection hits the closet.
"The fashion industry knows better than anyone the importance of feeling fit and fashionable in the season's hottest collections," said Joey Gonzalez of Barry's Bootcamp. "The Mercedes-Benz G-Class demonstrates how you can be athletically sculpted yet sleek and chic, embodying a classic confident look season to season."
Fans of Mercedes-Benz USA Facebook Page can take part in the action and can test their fashion fitness for the opportunity to win classes at the infamous Manhattan gym while listening to The G-Class Fit for Fashion playlist, available via Songza, featuring songs inspired by the runways that can be taken from the treadmill to the highway.
The G-Class, alongside its off-road sibling, the all-new GLK-Class, will be on display in the heart of the action at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center from September 6-13, 2012.

The new G-Class goes into production next month with greater power than any UK-specification model before it, more technology and a greater range of comfort and safety equipment.Priced from £82,945 OTR for the G 350 BlueTEC, the new G-Class has increased levels of standard equipment including new LED daytime running lights and a reworked interior that, for the first time, is fitted with COMAND Online. Also fitted as standard is Parktronic, an audio and visual parking aid and new leather upholstery in conjunction with heated front and rear seats. A new design of 18” five-spoke alloy wheels, electric folding and heated mirrors, instrument cluster with colour display and a mighty Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround sound audio system complete the changes.
The 3.0 litre V6 engine fitted to the G 350 BlueTEC model delivers 211 hp (a 1 hp gain) and retains the same fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of the model it replaces – 25.2 mpg and 295 g/km respectively.
The new G 63 AMG is priced at £123,115 OTR. Its hand built, bi-turbo 5.5-litre V8 AMG engine delivers 544 hp and 760 Nm of torque – an improvement of 37 hp and 60 Nm over the outgoing G 55 AMG. Despite these gains, the new V8 sees combined CO2 emissions reduced by 13% to 322 g/km and combined fuel consumption improved by 15% to 20.5 mpg.
Distinguishing the G 63 AMG from the rest of the G-Class range is a unique AMG radiator grille with twin chrome fins running through the black mesh grille. The changes extend to a set of AMG wheel-arch extensions finished in the vehicle colour, a bespoke AMG sports exhaust system with chromed twin tailpipes and a new 20” five-twin-spoke alloy wheel design in Titanium Grey high-sheen finish.
Inside, the G 63 AMG now features single-tone designo leather trim, an AMG selector lever with leather insets and an embossed AMG emblem, AMG stainless steel illuminated door sill panels complete with AMG lettering and an AMG instrument cluster with colour display. Finally, a powerful Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround sound system and COMAND Online with Media Interface and DAB radio ensure the G 63 AMG is fitted with the latest in-car enhancements.
In addition, the G 63 AMG comes with the Chrome Package and Exterior Styling Package as standard (optional on the G 350 BlueTEC - £765 and £1,515 respectively).
Despite its focus on performance the G 63 AMG, in common with every new G-Class, is fitted with permanent all-wheel drive, fully engageable differential locks, four wheel Electronic Traction System (4ETS) and a low-range gear reduction to ensure it remains a viable and adept off-road vehicle..jpg)

The new TV commercials that promote the new-generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class highlight the 4x4's ambivalent character: a unique, dynamic and fashionable means of transport and a trusty offroad companion that can reach places no other vehicles would even dare to. With the striking G 63 AMG high-performance SUV as the visual centerpiece of the campaign, a sensible dose of humour and an ironic message inserted in their content, the two advertisements gather the perfect ingredients to become internet virals very soon. Enjoy watching!

More than 30 years passed since it first went out on streets and even though it was substantially adapted for everyday use in the last decade, Mercedes-Benz fought to preserve the G-Class for what it originally represents: the Pikes Peak of 4x4 engineering. The Stuttgart-based constructor offers the Professional model which is eminently suitable for mountaineering/special rescue services, as well as for private individuals looking for hardcore offroad adventures. The G-Professional is basically a slightly modernized W 461 generation G-Class. This somewhat stripped-out, more practically-oriented version focuses on the robustness and reliability of the G-Class and it has been specifically created to operate in rugged terrain to help during extreme operations and expeditions.Image Credits: Daimler AGCopyright © 2012, mercedesgla.
