These type of scoops announce that we are getting a step closer to the reveal of a new automobile. With slight differences, almost a month ahead of the official premiere, the new GL-Class was also caught naked during a pre-launch shooting in early March. In the case of the forthcoming S-Class, more attention was paid to hiding the car as much possible to avoid an inappropriate early leak of the Stuttgart luxury flagship. However, there's indication that less than two months are left till the very first photos and information on the new W 222 generation are made public by Mercedes-Benz - read this as early July, exactly seven years after the current W 221 series was introduced. The Diamond white-coloured production-ready vehicle in standard wheelbase version was snagged by spy photographers during the preparation work for the usual photo shoot before the car is officially out on the field. The pictured S-Class is surrounded by a thick, white ducktape piece of camo, that helps hide every detail and crease that make up the new design. We can only barely sketch out some balanced profile surfacing through character lines, the wider radiator grille and the LED daytime-running lights inside the headlamps. To sum up, the new S-Class does not look to be heavy or huge, even though it has grown in size. Instead, it manages to hide its proportions in an intelligent manner and thus it is able to look very compact and agile.
When the driver opens the door to talk to some of his colleagues, we also get a hint of the interior. The designers seem to have successfully blended elements from the Ocean Drive Concept and F 700 research car into a rich-looking and unitary dashboard. Of course, it is obvious from the image the quality level inside the new S-Class will be 'über premium'.
When unveiled, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be the ultimate technologycal benchmark in the automotive industry. Amongst the biggest premieres, we mention the enhanced PRE-SAFE, the Braking Bag, the MAGIC RIDE CONTROL, the internet-based @yourCOMAND infotainment assistant, the 6D-Vision system, the autonomous driving pilot and world's first 9-speed automatic transmission - the 9G-TRONIC.
