SPY: The 2013 Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W 222) enters FEP stage no. 2

Hysteria is building around the future S-Class. While everybody initially thought it will be revealed at the Mondial de l'Automobile Paris 2012, Mercedes-Benz showed it has some great plans with the W 222 and postponed the world premiere for some time in 2013. Speculation is high whether the chosen motor show will be Geneva in March, Shanghai in April or Frankfurt in September. No matter the truth, one fact is for sure: it is deeply hurting to see the minimal camouflage of the prototypes (like in these latest scoops) and still no official photos of the serial model are released, even though everybody mostly knows how the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class Limousine will look.

Through time, we have uncovered a large dose of the secrets of the new S-Class, so there is not much to comment about the new generation of the luxury flagship from Stuttgart. The W 222 is already announced as a major revolution in the automotive industry, as this model will introduce a complete array of technological breakthroughs in the areas of active safety, passenger security, ride management, powering solutions and on-board communication & telematics.

Thomas Weber announces the new S-Class will also premiere the first-ever plug-in hybrid Mercedes-Benz version, most likely inspired from the VISION S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID revealed at IAA Frankfurt in 2009. We think there will be more similar versions and not just one. The entry-level variants, probably powered by low-displacement diesel and petrol units alongside the electric motor, will be able to achieve sub-100 g/km values for CO2 emissions.
