The day when the new S-Class is unveiled will be tremendous. After more than two years of intense development, the street prototypes of the 222 model series are still thoroughly tested to ensure everything will function perfectly on the serial product. Thanks to the multitude of spy shots and accurate renditions, we pretty much know how the Stuttgart luxury flagship could look like: above all, a classic, timeless design incorporating select progressive styling elements for added dynamism and presence. The CGI posted above comes from the Italian digital artists over at Quattroruote and, according to the journalists of the same magazine, it 80%-90% resembles the real S-Class (W 222).The premium limousine will boast a consistent array of active safety systems, that Mercedes-Benz will supposedly summarize under the slogan "Intelligent Drive". It will be equipped with 360-degree multi-purpose cameras that can see what the driver misses and act as a consequence, being connected to all the other safety technologies installed on the S-Class.
It has recently come to our attention that, apart from the breakthroughs we have already mentioned through time, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class will also premiere a state-of-the-art, camera-based pedestrian protection system. It scans the environment the car is travelling in with the help of intelligent video cameras and is able to recognize human beings that are passing by.
This system is developed to work in conjunction with the Emergency Steer Assist, which is also part of the newest generation of the DISTRONIC PLUS and mitigates for any potential collision or different danger and works to correct the trajectory of the car in a smooth and fluent manner to avoid further complications and help the driver regain full control over the vehicle.
Apart from the two mentioned above, there is also a third solution that completes the package: the Emergency Brake Assist, integrated as a function of the Brake Assist Plus (BAS), which can take the decision to slow the car down to a complete standstill (from a maximum speed of 72 km/h) if the driver does not take action to avoid a potential hazard.
All these ingenious safety features were co-developed by Mercedes-Benz and Continental experts in automotive engineering. Together with the MAGIC RIDE CONTROL and the MAGIC BODY CONTROL, both based on ultimate headlamp-mounted radar scanning technology, and further other technical achievements (such as the integrated LED Intelligent Light System), the new S-Class will establish itself as the summit of the automobile world and offer in-car security a whole new, revolutionary meaning.
However, there's still a long way to go, as we look for the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class to debut around May or June 2013, with the official world premiere scheduled for the IAA Frankfurt in September next year.
