AMG engineers are working at full throttle the forthcoming SLS AMG Black Series, as the supermodel is closing on the completion of the development stage, that started back in 2011. We expect the new rocket from Affalterbach will make global debut at the Paris motor show, in late September, with the succeding sales release following in early 2013.

We shall do a quick remind of the features the fifth Black Series model in history will bring along. First of all, this special version of the SLS AMG Gullwing will pe the pinnacle of the AMG motoring technology. Subsequent technical measures helped to upgrade the performance figures of the naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 engine. Thus, the peak output rose to 600 hp, if not 660-670 hp, as initial reports indicated, while the maximum torque exceeds 700 Nm. In the new configuration, 0-100 km/h should take less than 4 seconds, adding to the fact the car will also be lighter than the standard SLS AMG. The top speed could reach around 330-335 km/h.

The Black Series model is bound to receive a sharper setup for the powertrain. Suspension, dampers, brake system - all of them were substantially improved for superior dynamics. The electronics will ensure further safety, stability and predictability, even though we are talking about a supersports version of a supercar. However, the standard interior equipment will be minimal as you will certainly not find any of the normal comfort features you would expect to find in a car priced at over €250,000 in Germany. For better protection, the cabin will be fitted with a metallic cage. To further lower the weight kerb, the upcoming SLS AMG Black Series will be stripped off unnecessary gimmicks. However, due to safety requirements and regulations, the vehicle will sport the most crucial of the latest active/passive safety systems premiered by Mercedes-Benz.

The first information and details should be officially released by Mercedes-AMG GmbH either mid next month or early September. Stay tuned to Mercedes-Benz-Blog to find out more!
